The route follows beautiful grassy tracks through fields, excellent cinder paths and some of the most unique views in County Durham. There are also some lovely forest tracks and old railway walks with excellent going. All around the route riders will see the old workings of the train turning circle on the Kelloe railway line and beautiful scenery of the local countryside. Within the project the reclaimed land has been made into a preserved area for natural beauty and riders may get the chance to see unusual wildlife. Please be aware there are some undulating climbs on all routes, however very achievable to all.
The 40km route rides as above with the addition of an extra loop within the newly established pine tree plantation and has proved to be a very fast route.
65 KM
The route is made up of two individual loops (40Km - VET GATE - 25km) as we are aware of how boring it can be sometimes repeating yourself over the same loop. We have created a 65km route that rides two completely different loops yet still offering excellent going and wonderful views.
The first loop follows the same as the other distances and uses mostly grassy tracks, railway lines, forestry and beautiful cinder paths within the reclaimed land. A fast route as there are no gates! The second loop rides towards the north of the venue, covering more open countryside and bridleways. Much of the going is grassy bridleways, open fields and fantastic going along the top of Sherburn Quarry. Here riders will get the chance to see some amazing panoramic views accross County Durham including Durham Cathedral. There is also some roadwork linking the bridleways and paths together, however this still remains minimal.
